Root Canals

Severe decay or trauma to a tooth may infect and damage the nerve of a tooth, causing pain or causing the tooth to become necrotic. In these cases, root canal treatment is necessary. The process can involve multiple visits depending on your tooth. Root canal treatment involves going into the nerve space and removing the contaminated nerve tissue in the canals. The canals are disinfected and filled with a special material. Root canals have a success rate of over 95%. If the initial root canals fails, then retreatment is needed.

For a back tooth treated with a root canal, it is recommended for the tooth to get a crown in order to protect the tooth against fractures. For front teeth depending on how much tooth structure has been lost, it may or may not need a crown.
